The Eastern Delta scores on several counts. Tanis , Avaris and Bubastis are the best pharaonic ruins that Lower Egypt can offer; there are moulids aplenty, both Christian and Muslim; and if you include the places on the Central Delta coast, which are easier to reach from here, the region can also claim three low-key beach resorts and some fine bird-watching .

 

For some of these destinations it might be simpler to approach the Eastern Delta from Port Said or Ismailiya in the Canal Zone, rather than from Alex
